Mosin Nagant Parts Compatibility
All content copyright © 7.62x54r.net

The purpose of this page is to show which parts will interchange among the commonly found models of Mosin Nagant rifles to aid in repair or restoration. Rare variations such as the M1907 and M27rv carbines are not covered here. Eastern European M44s and the Chinese T53 are the same as the Soviet M44 unless otherwise noted. The Hungarian and Romanian M91/30s are the same as the Soviet M91/30 with the exception of the Romanian trigger and sear. While there are variations in style between parts from different eras and countries of production, this page is primarily concerned with functionality. For more information on what style of parts are "correct" for a particular rifle, see the Mosin Nagant Features section. For information on the correct parts markings for a particular rifle, see the Mosin Nagant Rifle Guide to Proofs and Markings section. When further information on a part listed on this page is available on 7.62x54r.net it is linked from the part name. The rifle used to illustrate the parts breakdown is a Soviet M91/30 and other models will vary. See the pages linked above for specific information. For instructions on disassembly of all models see the Mosin Nagant Rifle Exploded Views and Disassembly page.

#1 M91/30s on late receivers without the steps at the tang will not fit in earlier stocks that are fitted to receivers with the steps at the tang.
#2 Heavy barrel M24s and M91s will require the barrel channel to be opened up on stocks fitted to the standard weight barrels.
#3 M27, M28, and M28/30 rifles are relatively commonly found in all three types of stocks. They will fit in M39 stocks and vice versa, but it is not common to find them this way.

#1 Handguards for standard weight barrels may not fit well on heavy barrel M24s and M91s.

4.  Magazine body/triggerguard

These are generally interchangeable with two exceptions that both involve Finnish modifications. The first is the addition of a small dimple in the side of the body to help prevent rim jams when feeding. Unmodified magazine bodies would be incorrect on M28/30s and M39s, but they will fit. The second is lengthening of the trigger hole to accommodate the M27 style trigger and this type is necessary when an M27 style trigger is used, regardless of the model rifle.

5.  Nosecap

All nosecaps are interchangeable with the exception of the M27, M28, M28/30, and M39 types. These must be used with the corresponding type of stock except the M28 and M28/30 types which will interchange.

6.  Nosecap screw

The nosecap screws follow the same rules as the nosecaps.
