As my interests and obligations have changed I am no longer responding to e-mail regarding this website. Hopefully the following will answer any questions you might have. Thanks for your understanding.

1. How much is my Mosin worth/Did I get a good deal on this rifle? That's hard to say without seeing the rifle in person, even with detailed pictures. What I would pay for a particular rifle and what someone else would pay is often not the same. I won't pay much for a duplicate of a rifle I already own but I'll pay more for an example that's missing from my collection. In my area Mosins are plentiful, in your area they may not be. Collecting Mosins is my "second career", you may see them as a passing hobby. Visit some of the distributors and online auctions listed on the What model Mosin is this/Where was my Mosin made? Use the Mosin Nagant Rifle Model Identification Guide.

3. What type of Mosin should I buy? That depends on personal preference and what you intend to do with the rifle. Only you can decide that for yourself.

4. Can you tell me where to find out the service history of my Mosin from the serial number? No, that information doesn't exist.

5. Can you tell me what date my Mosin was built from the serial number? No, that information doesn't exist.

6. Do you sell Mosins, parts, accessories, or ammunition? No, see the What is the best ammunition for my Mosin? Every rifle is unique and the only way to know what is best for your rifle is to try different types of ammunition in it. Some ammunition is better quality than others and my experience and opinions are found in the 7.62x54r Ammunition Evaluations section.

8. Is a Mosin suitable for hunting? Yes, within reason. The 7.62x54r cartridge is comparable to .30-'06/8mm/.308 and is powerful enough for white tail deer and black bear with proper hunting bullets. I would not recommend it for brown bear, elk or moose, although it has undoubtedly been used for these animals. I would also not recommend it for ranges past 200 yards due to the relatively fast bullet drop and precise range estimation required at longer distances.

9. Can you tell me the best way to mount a scope on my Mosin? No. As a collector I prefer my rifles in original military condition and have no interest in altering them.

10. Where can I get a synthetic stock for my Mosin? I don't know. See #9.

11. What should I use to refinish the stock on my Mosin? In my opinion, nothing. See #9.

12. Where can I get a replacement barrel and how do I change barrels? I don't know. See #9.

13. My Mosin has lots of marks I can't identify, can you help? Probably not. There are dozens of marks found on Mosins with unknown meanings. Most are probably inspection marks from a particular stage of production or refurbishment. The exact meaning has been lost to time. For most of the known marks and some unknown marks see the Mosin Nagant Rifle Guide to Proofs and Markings.

14. May I contribute pictures to 7.62x54r.net? No, submittals are closed.

15. How many Mosins do you own? A lot.

16. I still have a question I'd like to ask. Have you read the Mosin Nagant FAQs page?
